Motion in Limine
(some attorneys pronounce this LIM-IN-AY and some LIM-IN-EE)
This is a motion attorneys file before trial, or on the day of trial, asking the court to stop the prosecutors from saying things in front of the jury during the trial.
For example, an attorney representing Donald in his assault case may file a motion in limine asking the Judge to order the prosecutors not to mention that Donald was kicked out of college for violent behavior in the dorms. The attorney does not want the jury to consider outside events and only wants the jury to focus on the facts in the current assault case.
